ACTIVITIES – EVENTS

Academy of the Freedom in Spirit takes action on social activities, aiming at the protection of the human being right to spiritual evolution and at ensuring  the appropriate requirements for the creation of the conditions necessary for their spiritual growth and evolution.

We organize and hold speeches and lectures on major subjects, concerning the way of thinking and the issue of human relations, in order to create questioning in an environment of free thinking and expression. In these events which are public and free for all, every person, either it is a member or a volunteer or someone that meets Academy for the first time, has the opportunity and the possibility to express and present his views freely through constructive dialogue. Moreover, in these events distinguished scientists, artists, people of the spirit, et. al, can participate as speakers, contributing with the presentation of their point of view in the broadening of our conception and understanding towards human being, the way in which he functions and his role in the environment.

Since the first years of economic crisis, Academy of the Freedom in Spirit, believing that education is a good of spiritual growth and development, which must be provided for free and has to be accessible for all people regardless their economic, social and other status, was the organization that first conceived and materialized the idea of the Social Tutorial School, the startup of which took place in the school year 2011 – 2012 at the region of Drapetsona – Keratsini and inspired many others, becoming nowadays an institution.

The initiative of the Academy was embraced and supported by many professors, who volunteered to offer their services selflessly, teaching courses of their expertise to students of Middle and High School classes, while some of the students, that benefited the most from the Social Tutorial School task, achieved high performance in the national examinations.

Having the belief that poverty is a form of enslavement and spiritual stasis, Academy made its presence noticeable through active participation in social actions of charity, which aimed at the reinforcement and support of poor families, who suffered either from the economic crisis or from other kinds of disaster. Indicative of our way of thinking regarding charity is our response to the big fires in 2007. After an extensive survey in the regions of Helia, Messenia, Laconia and Euboea (our members covered almost 2500 km), we looked for the poorest village which was identified as the village Kremasto of the Municipality of Konistra at the region of Euboea and we decided to focus our force there. The residents were mostly in need of animal food so that they keep the animals that were saved from the fires. Academy offered help by sending food (400 kilos), clothes and medicines. It also provided 9 tons of animal food covering the animals feeding needs for about 40 days and delivered the amounts of food according to the number of animals that each citizen owned. Each person that contributed in the support of the residents of Kremasto, besides a receipt, received an informative letter referring to the amount of money gathered and the way it was disposed, as indeed happens with every action of charity in Academy.

Since 2012, Academy supports poor families to their living in a weekly basis and provides psychological support to poor and unemployed fellow men. The resources available for the activities above come from the contribution of members and volunteers, as well as from the income of the bazaar events that are held for supporting these actions.

Unemployment, another result of economic crisis, leads the human creative ability in inaction, resulting in spiritual stasis as well as in the appearance of many psychological problems.

For this reason, Academy of the Freedom in Spirit organized and operates an effort to release unemployed people from inaction and to awaken and activate once again their creativity.

The contact details of unemployed volunteers and the services they provide are disclosed to all members and volunteers who have the possibility to choose or recommend these persons to others for the services they need.

It is noted that Academy is not involved in any way in any kind of professional agreement or/and financial transaction that takes place among its volunteers and members.

Academy supports small enterprises which are at risk of bankruptcy and closure, resulting in forcing more people to join poverty. For this reason, it holds speeches and lectures in cafeterias and other spaces, supporting the economy of the businessmen that they welcome in their store the organization’s events.

Academy of the Freedom in Spirit, since May 2016, collaborates with the global non-profit non – political organization of youth named AIESEC, by providing students from all over the world with voluntary job positions, offering the opportunity for practice and professional experience in various organization and operation sectors within Academy, such as marketing, graphic arts, web architecture, etc.

Alongside with the activities above, Academy of the Freedom in Spirit holds events and festivals for their members, volunteers and their friends (Christmas events, etc), music concerts and plays, as well as cinema evenings projecting independent productions and documentaries.
